Welcome to my small part of the Internet. I don’t why you came here but please have a look around to see if you find anything interesting. As you might have guessed this is my website, me being Jan Erik Moström, and it’s the place where I sometimes write some stuff or publish a few photos.
So, who am I? That is a question I’ve been asking myself and unfortunately I haven’t found a good answer yet. A few facts:
- I’m pretty lazy
- I don’t like heights
- I’m not exactly the world’s most social person
- I don’t like football (“soccer” for some people), hockey, or similar sports
- I work at the Department of Computing Science at Umeå University
I like cats, dogs … and pretty much any other animal For some reason my hearing is excellent (still), my eyesight … well … could we agree on “not exactly perfect”? Etc
I think my biggest claim to fame happened when I was about 10-15 years old: One day when I and friend biked passed the gas station, we saw that Magnus Härenstam and Brasse Brännström (famous from the children’s program “Fem myror är fler än fyra elefanter”) was filling up their car. We just stared at them and … they made a few faces to us. That could possibly be the most exciting thing that happened to me … or at least it’s on the top 10 list.
While I have a number of hobbies, I think it’s safe to say that the main one is photography. I spend a lot of time trying to become a better photographer and I’m happy to say that I’ve become better and better the last 15 years … but there is much, much more to learn. More about photography here.
A second hobby is martial arts. Unfortunately, I’m not good at it — I’m too inflexible — but I still enjoy it, I like that I need to use my brain and not just muscles. My style is called Ju-Jutsu Kai (sorry, I couldn’t find any info in English) and it’s based on traditional Japanese ju-jutsu styles with influences from judo, wado ryu karate och aikido. It has then been adopted to Swedish laws and evolved into a self-defense system that is Swedens largest ju-jutsu style. I also enjoy Iaido but it has been several years since I last did any practice. There are other martial arts that I find interesting, like for example Filipino Martial Arts, but I’ve barely tried them, so I don’t know that much about them.
Another hobby is target shooting but this is also something I haven’t done in several years - but I like to think that I was OK, far from the best but still OK.
This is probably more than you want to know about me, so I’ll stop here.
